Clean Energy Ministerial Biofuture Campaign

Achieving Net-Zero Emissions by 2050 will require countries, industries, and citizens to reduce, recycle, and replace fossil carbon across all economic sectors and modes of use. Rapid electrification and efficiency improvements are necessary, but not sufficient to achieveNet-
Zero Emissions by 2050. The Biofuture Campaign was developed in the
context of the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) to enable joint
work between Governments and Industry to accelerate
deployment of bio- and waste-based products and showcase
how they can and will benefit society.

Biofuture Sustainability Workstream

Despite bioenergy’s potential as an abundant renewable resource, appropriate biomass uses are slowed by concerns about sustainability, including both supply chain risks and unclear contributions to mitigating climate change. The Workstream on Biomass Quantification and Sustainability Governance was launched in 2022 to address these uncertainties through evidence-based, practical information. The Workstream produces new materials that fill key gaps, providing clarity and synthesis around these complex questions. Results will inform policy makers and reduce risks for industry adopters, leading not only to emissions reduction, but also to job creation that emphasizes rural regions. The Workstream focuses heavily on convening stakeholders. Interested parties from across sectors gather to identify and showcase policies and best practices that will increase sustainable biomass production, as well as integrate bioenergy into climate strategies.
